Morocco is one of the up and coming places to buy according to the property magnates. Bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean, just a few miles of sea separate it from Spain. Its northern coast and interior are mountainous but it also has large areas of plateau and coastal plains.

It's not without its romantic connections, check out Casablanca (Bogie and Bergman playing out their 2nd war romance with classic film noir elegance) and Marrakech resting as it does within full view of the Atlas Mountains with its own spice-infused romanticism, traditional Medina, markets and festivals.

Tangiers is a colourful city with a traditional port access from Spain. Popular in the 20th century with the swish English aristocracy, it still has a vibrancy.

Other sea ports include Agadir on the Atlantic coast with its white sandy beaches and Essaouira is popular with tourists.
