The Comoros is a country of islands north of Madagascar and off the northern Mozambique coast. The islands are a former French colony. There is a very active volcano on the island of Grande Comore, which has the capital Moroni. The total population is about 800,000, but given how small the islands are this is quite a dense population.

Mount Karthala is an extremely active volcano located on Ngazidja.
