Andorra is a tiny country perched in the Pyrenees mountains, between Spain and France. Andorra is probably best known for skiing and duty-free shops. Approaching from France, climbing higher and higher up the mountains, you first reach the strange town of Pas de la Casa. It's just like a wild west booty station - where wall-to-wall tax free shops will try to offload all their cheap fags and booze. It's the fact that this is high up on a mountain side which makes it particularly odd. Pas de la Casa is a major ski resort in itself.
Driving further in to Andorra one approaches lots of ski stations - Grau Roig being particularly impressive. Then it's on to Soldeu - with hordes of bargain basement Brit skiers. Andorra feels more Spanish than French - and given the huge number of cheap petrol stations at every corner you should never run out of gas.
Lonely Planet Guide to Andorra Ask a ProfessionalThere are investment prospects in Andorra, but it is essential that you seek independent expert professional advice before undertaking any property purchase. There are lots of things to bear in mind, including local laws and regulations, taxes, surveyor's assessments of the building, financial currency exchange, dealing with interbank transfers, volatity of the housing market, etc. etc. In some countries there are various restrictions on foreigners owning land or property, so this needs to be checked out fully. Any property purchase is a major undertaking. It may seem obvious but it's well worth going on holiday to a country several times to see if you like it.
Surge in InterestThe interest in purchasing property abroad has increased at an amazing rate in the past five years, fuelled in the UK by a booming domestic housing market making overseas properties seem good value for money.
